Want to know what esports events you absolutely need to check out this week? We’ve got you covered! Every week our staff pick some of the biggest events from all across esports that we think you need to watch.
This week we have major matchups in the LCS and the LEC as the 2020 Summer Split enters the final few weeks of competition. The Overwatch League is in a similar position, with only 3 weeks left in their regular season teams are trying to earn a few more wins before the season ends. The NBA2k League regular season is close to wrapping up as well, entering week 11 can the Raptors continue to dominate on their perfect season run? Finally, another Riot Games title grabs the last spot on our list with Cloud9’s TFT tournament finals this week, the top 8 players are now competing for $10,000 and a chance to represent North America in later competitions.
Highlight Match: Cloud9 vs TSM
Sunday, August 2nd – 5PM EST / 2PM PST
Our key matchup in the LCS this week is between the #3 seed TSM and #1 seed Cloud9. Cloud9 has clearly been the best team all year long but has had some rough games as of late showing the rest of the League that they are in fact mortal. With only three North American teams reaching the world championship this is a critical game for TSM to grab a victory and cement their spot near the top of the standings heading into the playoffs.
The additional rivalry historically between these two teams makes it even more meaningful and exciting.
Highlight Match: Fnatic vs G2
Saturday, August 1st – 3PM EST / Noon PST
Our marquee matchup in the LEC this week is the final match of the weekend between the #3 seed Fnatic and #5 seed G2 Esports. G2 Esports has been the best team in Europe for over a year and finished 2nd at last year’s World Championship but have been struggling this split. Fnatic has been their main rival throughout this entire period and matches between these two teams have always been entertaining and impactful. With both teams fighting to secure their playoff positions, this is by far the most important match in the LEC this weekend.
Highlight Match: Shanghai Dragons vs New York Excelsior
Saturday, August 1st – 8AM EST / 5AM PST
This week the Overwatch League features a matchup between two of the best teams in the league, the top seed Shanghai Dragons and the #6 seed New York Excelsior. Shanghai has only dropped two games the entire season making this an excellent challenge for a New York team looking to prove they can go all the way this year. This is a cross-divisional matchup between two teams we don’t get to see go head to head very often making this a match you definitely want to see.
Highlight Match: Raptors Uprising vs Kings Guard Gaming
Wednesday, July 29th – 9PM EST / 6PM PST
The Raptors Uprising have had an incredible season thus far not dropping a single series this season and already clinching themselves a spot in the playoffs. If they want to finish the season with a perfect record however they have another test to overcome this week facing Kings Guard Gaming who currently are #5 in the standings. The Kings Guard currently boast a 9-4 record and are no slouches making this another tough step to climb for the Uprising. This match will exemplify the absolute highest level of NBA2K gameplay making it one you don’t want to miss.
Thursday, July 30th – 9PM EST / 6PM PST
The rise in popularity around Team Fight Tactics has lead to Riot organizing an official competitive scene with its own official World Championship. Cloud9 is hosting one of the official qualifiers for North America to earn a slot at the TFT Galaxies Championship making it a must-watch event for any fan of the game. After an intense month of competition, the top 32 players in the region have been whittled down and now only 8 remain. With a chance to represent North America online as well as a $10,000 prize pool the top TFT players in North America will be locked in and incredibly focused for what is sure to be an incredible day of competition. The Finals start at 9 PM EST / 6 PM PST.
